It’s a hunt for bandits who attacked the vault of the institute last night Mondialpol surveillance in Caniga, on the outskirts of Sassari, shooting at chest height against a carabinieri car, which was riddled with bullets, and against a traffic police patrol, which rushed to the scene. The research is concentrated mainly in northern Sardinia and in the province of Nuoro.

On social media there are many amateur videos published by those who, despite themselves, find themselves the protagonists of scene da film. “Five hours stopped on the 131 with the wheels torn open by nails left by the bandits, dozens and dozens of cars stopped with children inside. Scenes of war, cars on fire and law enforcement officers running with pistols, machine guns and rifles in hand, in the distance the shots of the assault on the Mondiapol. We are back in the Wild West era,” writes a user, who also published a photo of a nail.

MONEY – The commando of around twenty criminals, who yesterday evening attacked the headquarters of the Vedetta 2 Mondialpol on the outskirts of Sassari, managed to take possession of “only part of the cash present in the headquarters and not the contents of the vault – the armored room , which constitutes the heart of the building – which was not conquered”. Mondialpol itself specifies this in a note in which it makes it known that “the security systems have generally held up to the violence of the attack.” “Despite the use of motorized mechanical means, Kalashnikov-type weapons, bulletproof vests and an organization with attention to the smallest details, the criminal action was contained thanks to the readiness of our personnel who, even under the pressure of enemy fire and guerrilla warfare , managed to implement emergency procedures specifically designed to deal with extraordinary situations like the one on Friday evening”, the company says.

“Our procedures, refined over almost a hundred years of history, and the preparation of our staff who participate in thousands of hours of training every year between mandatory and additional courses, have played a fundamental role in containing the damage – the press release continues – The next few hours will be crucial to reconstruct exactly what happened, we are collaborating with the authorities to provide all possible support to the investigations”. According to what has been learned, in fact, the top management of Mondialpol have been in Sassari since this morning for an inspection at the Caniga headquarters: in the next few hours the size of the loot will also be quantified.

THE INVESTIGATIONS – The investigations, conducted by the Flying Squad of the Sassari Police Headquarters, are trying to reconstruct the gang’s movements before and after the robbery. At the moment it is known that the commando was composed not of ten as initially learned, but of twenty bandits armed with Kalashnikovs, dressed in black and wearing bulletproof vests, shortly before 8:30 pm they approached an excavator to the fence wall of the Mondialpol headquarters in Caniga, and using the length of the arm of the mechanical vehicle they tore off a grill on the facade and broke through the wall of the building. While two criminals were operating the mechanical vehicle, at least six using a ladder climbed over the fence and entered the Mondialpol headquarters shooting in the air to scare the security guards.

Several shots were also fired against the surveillance sentry box and the agent inside was saved thanks to the bulletproof glass. The bags containing money were taken out with the arm of the excavator and loaded onto a white Fiat Ducato van, in which the gang fled towards Cagliari. While the robbery was in progress, a carabinieri patrol and a traffic police patrol, from opposite directions, reached the Mondialpol headquarters and the bandits did not hesitate to riddle the cars with bullets, shooting at eye level. Other members of the commando, it is estimated at least a dozen, blocked all the main access roads to the Caniga area, setting cars on fire and covering the asphalt with nails. In this way they delayed the arrival of the police and covered their escape.
