The ombudsman handled 823 cases in 2023. This data emerged from the press conference to present last year’s activity. The doctor Adele Squillaci, however, points out: «We need more staff. 823 cases handled by the Ombudsman

The Ombudsman’s Office has dealt with 823 cases, which are part of 97 files. 98.8% of the cases have been concluded; only 31 are not concluded in 2023.

The Aosta Valley Region is the entity with the highest number of cases, 211.

As for thematic areas, the greatest increase, +240%, is related to the education, culture and training sector.

The average age of citizens who contact the ombudsman’s offices is 55 years.

The activity of guarantor of prisoners

The office handled 164 cases in the context of its Prisoner Ombudsman activity.

In 2023, the Brissogne prison housed 132 inmates, with the number increasing in the first months of 2024.

The activity of the Minors’ Ombudsman

The files processed in 2023 were 19, for 85 cases, of which 8 were not concluded in 2022. The largest number of cases concerns municipalities (31).

There were 18,568 minors in Valle d’Aosta in 2023, a decrease compared to 2022. Guarantor for people with disabilities. 2023 was the first complete calendar year of activity of the Guarantor for people with disabilities.

Last year, 66 cases were processed, from 12 files.
