The rector opens up to dialogue: the students dissolve the pro-Palestine garrison

PAVIA. Rector Francesco Svelto opens to students who have set up a permanent garrison for Palestine inside the university for 43 days and the evacuation of tents and banners began on Friday evening.

Four of them will be included in a working table with four academic senators and two university professors who will discuss resolutions to be proposed to the Academic Senate on July 15th.

«We have obtained, after 43 days of silence, the implicit recognition of our assembly, but also a working table that will produce the resolutions to be voted on in the session of the Academic Senate on 15 July and the guarantee that the University will not undertake disciplinary measures and actions legal proceedings against the participants in the demonstration of the last 43 days – explain the “Students for Palestine” -. And a room will be made available to the assembly for the entire duration of the table and until the session of the Academic Senate: a minimal achievement compared to the request for a permanent room, which however we were willing to accept in order to meet the requests of the rector for opening the table. The tents are dismantled, but the assembly of Youth for Palestine Pavia remains more alive than ever, so that the institution of universal culture becomes truly universal again and disavows activities against its principles. We will fight until the university uses the tools at its disposal to hinder Israeli humanitarian crimes, also to protect our Palestinian colleagues in Pavia.” —
