TERAMO. Yesterday morning, about a hundred people took part in the demonstration at the foot of the Municipality, in via Carducci, in support of the two councilors removed by the mayor Gianguido D’Alberto following the cabinet reshuffle. As is known, those who were ousted were Valdo Di Bonaventura e Ilaria De Saints. The first, leader of the civic group Teramo Vive (absent from the demonstration yesterday), would have paid the price of the candidacy for the regional elections on the list of Azione (which sits in opposition in the city council). The second, instead, would have been sacrificed in light of the numerical reduction that her group, Insieme Abbiamo (also absent yesterday), suffered in the days preceding the reshuffle with the farewell given by the councilors Andrea Core e Sarah Falini entered the mixed group. D’Alberto brought the councilor to the council Mark of Mark Antony of the Democratic Party (replacing John Cavallari elected in the Region) and the civic councillors Graziella Cordone e Miriam Tullius: choices that the mayor, beyond the brief statements included in the press release announcing the changes, never wanted to comment on, not even when the popular storm of dissent arose.
From social media to yesterday’s royal square, there are many people from Teramo who did not welcome the removal of Di Bonaventura and De Sanctis by virtue of the votes they both received in the administrative elections a year ago and the work done in their respective sectors. And it is on these aspects that the protesters made themselves heard yesterday, many of whom wore white t-shirts with the words “I’m with Valdo” and “I’m with Ilaria”. For those present and for the two former councilors, the issue on which to shine the spotlight is above all that of respect for democracy and the will of the voters. A will that was betrayed by the mayor, who would have preferred to safeguard political balances rather than preserve popular councilor figures who had filled up on preferences. “This initiative was wanted first and foremost by the citizens, whom we thank for the great affection they have shown us in recent days. We are not attached to the seats but we believe that the citizens’ vote should be respected and the mayor has not done so”, said De Sanctis and Di Bonaventura.
Yesterday Azione returned to express solidarity with the two former councillors, announcing that it wanted to advance, through the Honourable Giulio Sottanellia proposed electoral law aimed at modifying the current one in municipalities with more than 15,000 inhabitants. «The proposal includes the replacement of councilors appointed as assessors; a vote of renewal of confidence halfway through the mandate, so that, in the event of a vote of no confidence, the council will elect a new mayor; the elimination of the runoff in the event that one or more candidates exceed 40% of the votes in the first round, with the direct election of the most voted candidate, thus streamlining the electoral process», explains Azione.
