MARTINSICURO. Five more Aleppo pines will be cut down on via Don Sturzo in Villa Rosa after the agronomist appointed by the administration submitted the report on the state of the trees on the road to the town hall. The professional’s report was made necessary after one of the pines collapsed on the roadway on June 19, devastating three parked cars and prompting the mayor to issue a special order to close the road for safety reasons. The five pines will be cut down shortly; the town has already appointed a specialized company, and they are in addition to the fallen one and the two that the agronomist had deemed dangerous from the first inspection and were immediately cut down by the firefighters.
The total comes to eight, and these pines are added to some plants cut down in recent years because they were considered dangerous. So the street of the hamlet will no longer have trees on the sea side of the road. Via Don Sturzo is a parallel of the Lungomare Italia of the hamlet that goes from the intersection with Via De Gasperi to the one with Via Filzi. The decision was made after the agronomist had carried out static traction tests in recent days which had revealed that the five pines were at risk of being cut down. “Once the cutting has been carried out”, the environmental councilor says Mark Cappellacci“new trees suitable for the context will be restored in the street”.
