With the same extensions, according to some scholars, much more could be produced. Changing technology though

VITERBO – 3387.1 hectares were occupied by solar panels as of March 20, 2021, with a production of 1.3 Gigawatts of electricity, but not all the people of Viterbo look favorably on the expanse of silicon, especially farmers and trade associations. According to some scholars, the extension could be reduced to have the same energy production, but with the technology, in their opinion, suitable, or produce four times as much, and also have hot water at will: ‘Italy installs in concentrated solar systems all over the world but they don’t do it at home. In the same space as photovoltaics, 8 Terawatts of energy could be produced per year for 1 million families’ explains Engineer De Caro, national president of AIOS (Association of Interforce Observers of Civil Protection and Security).

Even the president of Italia Nostra Viterbo, Adrian Moss, is of the same opinion: ‘the energy and environmental solution is certainly found in a diversification of strategies depending on geographical and environmental conditions accompanied by an evolution of industrial, commercial and social systems and consumption: wind, sun for self-production, water, electricity, biomass and waste and, like it or not, the energy of the atom (SMR, fourth generation or Thorium), or solar concentration. Environmental systems are very complex, a fragile balance. It seems dishonest to think that we can solve the environmental issue by closing our eyes and thinking. The dissemination of energy production systems across the countryside with related electricity transport infrastructures represents unprecedented devastation.

‘The Noor solar concentration plant, which we built in Morocco, extends over 2500 hectares’ explains the engineer. Giovanni De Caro ‘and produces 8 TeraWatts of continuous electricity annually, the energy needs of 1 million families. The same extension of photovoltaic in Tuscia would produce 2.5 TeraWatts per year, with a cost of 2.5 billion euros, while the entire Noor power plant, to date, has cost 995 million euros. Furthermore, the thermal energy produced, with a district heating system, could provide hot water and heat the entire city of Rome.
