Many young people, mothers and fathers accompanying their children, friends, relatives, ordinary people. The grandmother and relatives follow the coffin to the entrance of the church, and sit in the first pews. Many cameras and journalists follow the funeral of Christopher Thomas Luciani, 17 years old who would have turned 30 on August 30, killed on Sunday afternoon, with 25 stab wounds, in Baden Powell Park in Pescara.
Among the first to arrive were the prefect of Pescara, Flavio Ferdani, and the police commissioner Carlo Silomene. Don Coluccia, the priest who challenges the clans and wages battles, arrives escorted. The funeral, which began at 5:00 p.m. in the church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Rosciano where Thomas grew up with his maternal grandmother, is officiated by the archbishop of Pescara Penne, Monsignor Tommaso Valentinetti, and the parish priest Don Mario Spadaccini. The mayor, Simone Palozzo, has proclaimed a day of mourning.
Banners, white balloons, the church is packed. “For those who want to say their last goodbye to my angel…”, wrote on social media yesterday, sharing the image of the obituary, grandmother Olga, who had taken care of him “like a mother” since he was three and a half. In the funeral poster there is a photo of Crox – as his friends called him – with his long hair on his forehead and his childish face.
The stab wounds
From the autopsy, which continued until late yesterday evening, it emerged that the boy’s death was caused by injuries that affected both lungs, causing irreversible hemorrhagic shock. Thomas would die quickly. The examination – carried out by the medical examiner Cristian D’Ovidio, in the presence of his colleague Ildo Polidoro, expert for part of the victim’s family – confirmed the number of blows that emerged during the cadaveric inspection, i.e. 25. The autopsy was long and complex due to the need to identify the individual injuries, but it allowed us to clearly reconstruct the dynamics, the causes of death and what the lethal blows were. Two 16-year-olds were arrested for Crox’s murder. The only real intent was “to cause suffering and death”, we read in a passage of the provision with which the investigating judge of the Juvenile Court of L’Aquila validated the detention yesterday. The circumstantial framework, the judge further writes, “highlights the harmful impulse, that of causing suffering and killing a human being, as the determining cause of the action”.
Hour after hour there are more flowers and notes left at the entrance to the green area.
