Bradyseism, the complaint from “Pozzuoli resists”: “Few responses from the Government and even wrong ones”

The Committee Pozzuoli resistsin a press release, commented on the decisions taken by the Minister for the Civil Protection Nello Musumeci on the bradyseism issue, with the approval of the second Campi Flegrei law decree of June 24th.

“The second “Campi Flegrei decree” of 24 June does not address the essential point to guarantee coexistence in our territory with the natural phenomenon of bradyseism: there is no money to make homes safe. Only 20 million euros for contributions to be made on buildings evacuated after the earthquake of May 20th, with times and methods of disbursement still to be verified. For everyone else, the message is “make do”, “take out an insurance policy”, “sell out and go away”.

The signatories of the appeal Pozzuoli resists they also respond to subsidies for displaced persons for independent accommodation: “For the approximately one thousand displaced Pozzuoli, who in a few days will no longer be able to count on hotel accommodation and leave their rooms, aid of 400 and 900 euros per family unit has been confirmed for independent accommodation while waiting to return to their homes, extendable for the whole of 2025, but completely insufficient to support the costs of rent in a real estate market without controls”.

“Most of the funds raised, around 420 million euros – we read in the note – is intended for public buildings (136 ml) and “transport systems or other services” (287 ml). The attention given to the anti-seismic redevelopment of schools is right, as long as it is carried out quickly and well. What is worrying, however, is the forecast of a new rain of euros for projects and works that will be decided by an extraordinary commissioner and above the urban planning plans”.

In fact, we continue on the path of the “intermodal plan” of 1984 which in 40 years has produced tunnels, bridges and superstructures of dubious usefulness. Nothing but escape routes! With new interventions spread out over time until 2029, the Campi Flegrei risk once again being a permanent construction site for the benefit of a few.

The attack on the hard Minister Musumeci: “In presenting these measures, the Minister for Civil Protection Musumeci confirmed little knowledge of the Campi Flegrei and no respect towards a community with a thousand-year history, speaking of generic “illegal activity” without having the numbers and with a view to political conflict with Region and local authorities that citizens are interested in “zero”.

The promoters ofappeal Pozzuoli resistsin expressing a harsh criticism of the logic, substance and priority orders of the decree, have forwarded the support and signatures collected so far (over 1,600 in 10 days) to all institutional levels – Government, Parliamentary Groups, Region, Municipalities, Civil Protection, Health Directorate, Archaeological Park of Phlegraean Fields – to reiterate these requests: quick help and necessary measures in favor of displaced persons until their return to the evacuated homes;

Plan of securing on all the real estate in the restricted area; protection of rights to health and educationproductive activities, the existing social fabric and the prospect of cultural tourism.

“We also say NO to commissionership, which will deprive the local community of deciding on its own future and urban structure. And we want local administrations to make the citizens’ voices heard strongly towards the Government, overcoming soft approaches which behind the formal “institutional correctness” risk translating into complicity with those who want to leave the Campi Flegrei to their own fate and speculative drifts”.
