Worker falls on construction site: two plea bargain, 4 on trial – Teramo

TERAMO. In the endless days of massacres at work and telling of too many who will never return home, the judicial news puts a first point in the case of the 24-year-old Senegalese Ibrahima Drame, young father who arrived in Italy with the dream of a different life and fell 15 meters from scaffolding on the construction site of the church of Sant’Agostino, in the center of Teramo, where post-earthquake interventions were underway.
For his death, which occurred in April last year, four of the six suspects for manslaughter and violation of the rules for the prevention of accidents in the workplace will go to trial while plea bargaining was accepted for two: this was ordered by the judge for preliminary hearings Roberto Veneziano at the end of the hearing in which the victim’s brother became a civil party. Because between the massacres that do not stop and the new security measures being examined by the Government, it is up to prosecutors and courts to have to give the first answers, at least judicially. The technical assessment ordered by the judge with the formula of the evidentiary incident immediately after the events established that for that scaffolding, we read in the documents, “the preliminary design had not been drawn up and it lacked effective anchoring to the wall”.
They each pleaded guilty to a sentence of one year and eight months. Luigi De Lauretis68 years old, from Fontanelle di Atri, legal representative of the construction company involved in the works and Bruno Di Donato65 years old, from Fontanelle di Atri, in his capacity as person in charge of the assembly, transformation and dismantling of scaffolding (the first assisted by the lawyer Andrea De Lauretisthe second by the lawyer Quintino Rastelli). They will go to trial with the ordinary procedure Vincent Di Silvestre43 years old, from Bellante, as director of works on the construction site; Antonio Masci43 years old, from L’Aquila, in his role as coordinator for the execution of works on the construction site; Marco Verdecchia, 62 years old, from Teramo, as an employee of the construction company responsible for assembling and dismantling scaffolding on the construction site; And Ibrahim right, 26 years old, resident in Roseto, in his role as a worker responsible for assembling and dismantling scaffolding on the building site (defense team composed of lawyers Rosanna De Antoniis, Amelide Francia, Gelsomina Marsilii, Luigi Di Liberatore, Stefano Bilò). For the four defendants the trial will begin on October 3 and it will be a preliminary hearing to establish whether or not there were responsibilities as claimed by the Prosecutor’s Office. The file belongs to the prosecutor Stephen Giovagnonione of the magistrates on the front line in the pool that deals with accidents at work. The Prosecutor’s Office is contesting, in addition to manslaughter, also the crime of serious injury: in the accident, in fact, another worker from the same construction site was injured. Ibrahima Dramè had arrived in Italy seven years earlier on one of the many boats of hope after crossing the desert on foot. He had done everything and for some time had found work as a bricklayer. He was waiting for his wife and two young children to arrive in Italy with family reunification.
