CATANIA-The second stage of the 2024 Italian Absolute Beach Volleyball Championship ended yesterday in Catania. Having archived the first Gold event in Caorle (VE), this weekend the “Le Capannine” establishment in Catania has therefore decreed the winners of the second event of the FIPAV national championship. Reka Orsi Toth and Giada Bianchi triumphed in the women’s draw, while Gerald Ndrecaj and Franco Arezzo of Trifiletti won in the men’s draw.
WOMEN’S BOARD
Clear the path of Reka Orsi Toth and Giada Bianchi; the Italians passed the main draw thanks to successes over Arianna Barboni and Courtney Schwan (21-17, 21-19), Sara Franzoni and Eleonora Gili (21-12, 21-17) and Giada Benazzi and Michela Lantignotti (21-19 , 21-18); in the semi-final the victory came against Federica Frasca and Alice Gradini, overcome 21-14, 21-13, while in the final Orsi Toth/Bianchi beat the team again (21-15, 21-16). Benazzi/Lantignotti, thus obtaining the first seasonal success in the championship at their first appearance; the Italians skipped Caorle because they were busy in the CEV Nations Cup. Second place confirmed instead for the pair Benazzi/Lantignotti; the athletes trained by Alessandro Lucchi, in fact repeated the result obtained in the first Gold stage of Caorle; excellent victories obtained over Sofia Arcaini/Claudia Puccinelli (20-22, 21-18, 15-7) and Sara Breidenbach/Chiara They (21-15, 21-12) in the fourth round losers and in the semifinal. Closing the podium Sara Breidenbach and Chiara They by virtue of the 2-0 (24-22, 21-15) inflicted on Federica Frasca and Alice Gradini in the third quarter final.
MEN’S SCOREBOARD
In the men’s draw, first success for the pair Gerald Ndrecaje Franco Arezzo of Trifiletti; the home favorites began their journey with successes in the main draw over Daniele Lupo and Ivan Zaytsev (23-21, 21-19), Federico Geromin and Matteo Camozzi (21-17, 21-18) and Tiziano Andreatta and Manuel Alfieri (18-21, 21-19, 15-13), who continued with the victory in the semifinal over Luca Bigarelli and Riccardo Reggiani, overcome in the third set 21-16, 16-21, 15-12. Ndrecaj/Arezzo di Trifeletto then closed the tournament in style thanks to the 2-0 (22-20, 23-21) obtained in the final over Mauro Sacripanti and Giacomo Titta, stopped after four victories and zero sets lost. Third step of the podium for Luca Bigarelli and Riccardo Reggiani after the victory in the third set (24-22, 16-21, 15-13) against Riccardo Copelli and Matteo Ingrosso in the third and fourth place final.
