Activists of Last generation they tried to lie down on the street near Piazza Venezia during the Republic Day celebrations. The police intervened to remove the protesters, who put up passive resistance. Shortly afterwards it passed Sergio Mattarella on the presidential Lancia Flaminia. In a press release Ultima Generazione claimed responsibility: “This morning five citizens joined the campaign Repair Fund Of Last generation they were stopped by the police while they were witnessing the passage of the President of the Republic in via IV Novembre. While they were still in the audience beyond the barriers, they were tackled by the police and taken to the police station. A policeman used his truncheon on a Last Generation person while he was already held on the ground by other officers: “We came to ask Mattarella to protect us, and to protect the Republic because the government is not doing it, but we were unable to enter the street because they blocked us. This is not the Republic Day we want. We want the celebration of all citizens, of the farmers who have lost everything, homes and crops, of the workers who continue to die from work, of the doctors and nurses who have been praised during the pandemic. But today there are none of these categories in the streets. This has become a hypocritical party, democracy is increasingly in danger, the government is not protecting us. We are only here to ask for protection with a Reparation Fund, which can help all those affected even in these days, and who will be increasingly affected in the future as science tells us.
