Wine, Japan also discovers Abruzzo – Pescara

PESCARA. American wine buyers and sommeliers and experts, Japanese and Chinese importers. For the entire month of June until mid-July, the Consorzio Tutela Vini d’Abruzzo is organizing a series of events, tours, tastings, masterclasses and other activities to welcome stakeholders and importers for an all-round promotion, organized in various places in the region, to show the beauty, but above all the variety of the territory, the first step to give extreme diversity to the wines of the region.
Great interest in Abruzzo wine has been shown by Japanese importers, who have arrived on the Costa dei Trabocchi in recent weeks.
«It’s very interesting», highlighted the Japanese importer Shigeru Hayashi, «the great growth of Pecorino, also sparkling, and of Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo, a wine that has a nice body and also proves suitable for pairing with Japanese cuisine. Over the years the image of Abruzzo wine has changed a lot. In the beginning only Montepulciano d’Abruzzo was known as a quantity wine, while now thanks to the work of the producers, the quality of all the regional wines has emerged.”
During the visit, which took place between 10 and 14 June, the two Japanese restaurateurs who won By The Glass 2023 were also present, the competition organized to introduce consumers to the pairings of Abruzzo wines with local cuisine, which takes place every year in November involving over 160 restaurants across Japan.
«We are working a lot on the foreign market», explained the president of the Consorzio Tutela Vini d’Abruzzo, Alessandro Nicodemi«with targeted activities aimed at showing the qualitative growth of Abruzzo wine in recent years, and the great variety that our productions can offer, thanks to a regional territory that is characterized by great diversity».
Finally, the Consortium announces that the next appointments will be held from 1st to 5th July with Chinese importers and then from 8th to 13th July with American master sommeliers. (cs)
