The President of the Province of Benevento Nino Lombardi asked the Director of the Sector of the Province of Benevento, Eng. Angelo Carmine Giordano to warn the concessionaires of the works for the construction of the Naples – Bari High Capacity Railway to restore the provincial roads that allow heavy vehicles access to the numerous construction sites opened along the Telesina Valley up to the borders with Irpinia.
The initiative was born following numerous reports from private citizens, institutions and provincial councilors, after some inspections carried out by the President himself on the road network and after acquiring the reports of the Technicians of the Infrastructure Sector of the Authority.
«The Presidency of the Province of Benevento», declared Lombardi, «takes note that the heavy mechanical and transport vehicles operating on the construction sites of the Naples – Bari High Capacity Railway, using the connecting provincial roads, do not appear to adopt all the necessary and due precautions to ensure that road surfaces are not damaged with their transit and loads.
It has also been noted that even part of the waste material from the caissons often falls onto the asphalt.
It is hardly necessary to underline the seriousness of the situation which is confirmed by numerous users and representatives of the institutions who daily use the provincial network serving the municipalities of Dugenta, Amorosi, Telese Terme, Castelvenere, Guardia Sanframondi, San Lorenzo Maggiore, Solopaca , Bridge and Apex.
The Province of Benevento has always been committed to ensuring that the provision of the material (and immaterial) infrastructures of the Sannio is adequate to the needs and requirements of the contemporary world and global competition, and the High Capacity Railway on the Naples – Bari line is an ancient battle of Rocca dei Rettori, but this assumption”, concluded the President, “cannot translate, nor can it justify the damage to the pre-existing road network and to the safety of public and private transport”.
