Alfio Torrisicoach of Trapani newly promoted to Serie C, gave an interesting interview to Tmw Radio, during the broadcast A Tutta C. These are his words:
First of all, congratulations on the promotion obtained with Trapani. How do you deal with such an ambitious and histrionic property?
“The club has the sole objective of winning in mind. The president defends his choices and charges us with positive energy every day, making important budgets available; so everything becomes simpler.”
What were the most important moments of the season?
“The parameters were to create something important. All the components worked to achieve the objective, especially the players on the pitch. It was difficult to end a championship undefeated and, also considering the previous season, with forty-eight consecutive useful results. With a new team we immediately started very strong, also winning important clashes in Reggio Calabria and Syracuse. As you win, your self-esteem increases, and in this aspect too the president has helped in increasing your beliefs”
How much satisfaction is there in having won also by launching young players such as Pino, Ujkai and Guerriero?
“I congratulate you, many often only talk about experienced players like Cocco and Kragl. Guerriero had been taken by Eccellenza, while Ujkai had been purchased by a small team in Group A. For these moves we must congratulate director Mussi, who has exceptional knowledge. However, the older players transmitted great values. A great alchemy was created which led the boys to put their qualities into play. Playing in front of five thousand fans is not like playing on provincial pitches.”
How will the squad be lined up for next season?
“The ambitions are to have a top championship, even though we will find ourselves in a championship with solid teams like Catania, Avellino and Benevento. We will have the label of a newly promoted team, but with the structure for a step up in category. For the transfer market I can guarantee that we already have eighty percent of the team already made, but for the official information we have to wait for the transfer dates. We need people with experience but with ambition and a mix of strong young people who want to aim for Serie B. We will set up the team with these ideas.”
Will the back four be confirmed?
“We are working on this game system, the 4-3-3. We built the team on this basis.”
What do you take with you from the great apprenticeship you have achieved?
“I’m proud of my start from the very low funds, just think that I started third eight years ago. From those experiences I carry with me strength and perseverance. I won’t stop because my ambition is to aim very high, there is nothing unattainable. Now I am aware of the responsibilities I will have, but being coach of a newly promoted team with this ambition is a great opportunity. So far I have shown that I have always achieved results, but I feed and live on pressure.”
How nice is it as a Sicilian to have done so well in Sicily?
“It’s a pride. Trapani is a beautiful city to live in, the people on the street give you strength because they are hungry for football. Even the kids ask you for photos, because everyone here still lives for Trapani, not for Juventus, Inter or Milan. This gives me great pleasure and increases my responsibilities.”
He also met Spalletti in Coverciano. What would he say to him for these European Championships?
“I was his student for a few hours in Coverciano, but I can’t afford to give advice. The maestro demonstrated his strength and value in Naples. Now Italy, with its problems, will still be part of the final phase today. With his perseverance and philosophy he will bring great results as he always has. Maximum trust in the coach.”
