The participatory phase aimed at the city to propose the names of citizens who have left a mark in the history of the city and what they are deserving of the honor for the new Famedio of Varesewhich will be placed in the monumental cemetery of Giubiano.
Individuals or associations with registered office in the municipal area will be able to report to the Municipality of Varese a name to include, together with the reasons.
«After the preparatory work of the Famedio Commission, the participatory phase open to the whole city now begins – explains the President of the Famedio Commission Francesca Strazzi – wanting our fellow citizens to be an active part of this path which sees the inauguration of a place to remember and honor all the men and women of Varese who have given prestige to our city and have distinguished themselves in the history of their homeland. Inaugurating the Famedio marks an important moment for the city because history and those who have been an active part of it constitute the foundation of our present, projecting it towards the future”.
The Famedio Commission recently decided that the names proposed must refer to citizens who lived in the period between 1861, the year of the Unification of Italy, up to the present day. There are three categories: deserving citizens, that is, those who have brought prestige or benefit to the city; illustrious citizens, who have distinguished themselves for literary, scientific, artistic works or for illustrious deeds; finally citizens who have distinguished themselves in the history of their homeland.
Applications must be submitted by completing the form‘special form present on the website of the Municipality of Varese by September 2024. The applications received will then be evaluated by the Commission, which may also avail itself of the assistance of experts and may request additional documentation. In December the names will be proposed to the City Council and subsequently the solemn ceremony will be held at the monumental cemetery of Giubiano, with the placing of the commemorative plaque.
