The Trapani management continues to work tirelessly to build the squad for the 2024-2025 season. For the attack, the target is Mamadou Kanoute, Taranto striker, author of 13 goals and 3 assists in 37 games in the last championship. An agreement is sought between the two club.
Kanoutè arrived in the rossoblù in August last year, signing a contract that binds him to the club until 2025. Despite his almost two hundred and fifty appearances in Serie C, last season was the best of his career, coming close, for a few days, to , even the title of best scorer in the group, six goals away at the end of the season.
His first contact with Italian football was in Serie B, when in the 2011/2012 season he arrived to wear the yellow and red jersey of Benevento. This experience would prove to be very short, as he would be sold in the January market to Valle d’Aosta in Serie C, but he would still be able to demonstrate his technical skills and his ability that would allow him to return to Serie B six years later with the jersey of Pro Vercelli.
His debut in Serie C, as previously mentioned, will come in the 2012/2013 season with the Valle d’Aosta jersey. The excellent performances he will put on the field will make him wear the jerseys of Ischia and Juve Stabia, without ever managing to fully reveal his talent. He will have to wait until the two-year period 2018-2020, when he will wear the Catanzaro jersey, to best express all his qualities: he will score eleven goals in fifty-six appearances, seasoned with five assists, which will make him a candidate to be one of the protagonists of the team.
The connection with Capuano
The bond that was created between Eziolino Capuano Mamadou Kanoute was one of the positive factors that accompanied Taranto last season. During the presentation press conference, the player told how the coach almost begged him to wear the red and blue colors: “Capuano called me every day, talking to me about the Taranto project, making me understand that passing through here I would have grown even more. The project we have is important and convinced me to go to Taranto“.
The response from Capuano himself, in true “Eziolino” style, does nothing but accentuate the beautiful bond that has been created between the two and shows how the attacker’s choice was strongly desired by him first and foremost: “Kanoute? I took Kanoutella, now we’ll make him a nice chocolate and eat him with the doll. Kanoute was a reject, they sent him away. And I who don’t understand a thing about football, I took him“.
Kanoutè and his career around the world
Kanoutè’s first kicks of the ball come on the streets of Dakar, Senegal, with some friends. His older brother immediately notices his great qualities and enrolls him in the city’s football school, which will lead him to wear the jerseys of the youth teams of the national team, playing in various international tournaments including one in Japan.
He arrived in Italy at eighteen, deciding to leave Senegal to make a change in his life. Also important in his career was the season in which he wore the pink and black jersey of Palermo, which was then fundamental for his arrival in Taranto of Eziolino Capuano, the team of his consecration.
