Three boys got stuck on a small island in the Adda river, near the municipality of Vaprio d’Adda, in the Milan area. The police and firefighters arrived on site but it would seem that the three did not cause particular concerns apart from the fear of having been stuck. A fourth friend who was with them raised the alarm. These are two boys residing in Vaprio d’Adda and one in Osio Sopra, in the province of Bergamo, all of Pakistani origin.

According to what has been reconstructed so far, the four would have ventured through a point of the diga Fara Gera d’Addawithout being able to return. The three would have therefore remained stranded on a small island in the long river (the fourth in Italy after the Po, Adige and Tiber) that flows into the Po from Valtellina crossing the whole of Lombardy: the fourth friend, however, managed to save himself and call for help. Probably the sudden change in the river’s water flow caused the three to remain blocked, unable to return to shore on their own and thus forcing the fourth friend to call for help to avoid any kind of danger.

The specialized units of the water rescue of the Fire Brigade Commands of Milan and Bergamo arrived on site, together with the medical-health personnel of 118 and the Carabinieri of Vaprio d’Adda. The police rescued them in the evening, but the conditions of the three do not cause particular concern: recovered by the water rescue personnel and brought back to shore, they are all fine and will therefore be able to return home.
