In response to the particular weather conditions, the municipality of Monza has launched an extraordinary campaign to intensify grass cutting and mowing activities. The seasonal peak, combined with the abundant spring rains, has made this action necessary to control spontaneous weed vegetation in urban areas. Mechanical weeding operations are carried out by Impresa Sangalli, responsible for cleaning streets and sidewalks, while the CS&L consortium manages public green areas.
The Sangalli Company teams have been active in several neighborhoods of Monza, including Libertà and San Gerardo, covering numerous main streets. The goal is to eliminate weeds that grow along public streets and sidewalks, thus facilitating cleaning operations and improving the usability of urban spaces. Weed control operations will continue to cover the entire municipal territory over the next six weeks, barring adverse weather conditions.
Innovations in the Public Green Management Contract
The new contract for the management of public greenery in Monza introduces important innovations. One of the main ones is the differentiated mowing and the creation of flowerbeds, aimed at enhancing urban biodiversity. Furthermore, the redevelopment of the city’s flowerbeds and roundabouts and the monitoring of the Takahashia japonica scale insect parasite are planned, with experimental treatments to combat infestations.
The CS&L consortium, with over 30 dedicated operators, is carrying out the fifth round of grass cutting, necessary due to the rapid regrowth caused by favorable weather conditions. The mowing operations cover more than 1,300,000 square meters of greenery, including flowerbeds, school gardens and roadside verges. The activities also include urgent pruning, weeding of flowerbeds, tree splitting and checking the functioning of irrigation systems.
The Councilor for the Environment Giada Turato underlined the importance of these extraordinary measures to recover the work suspended during the rainy days and to guarantee the urban decorum in the first half of the summer. The innovative activities foreseen by the new contract will be carried out in the most suitable season, contributing to further improving the quality of life in Monza.
