MONTEROSI – They surprised the homeowner in the garden, held him down and, threatening him with a gun, forced him to hand over the money he had in the villa. Then they fled with the loot but one of the criminals was caught shortly after.
This is a man in his sixties, an Italian with a criminal record and resident in the province of Rome, arrested on Friday in Monterosi by the Carabinieri of the Nepi Station and the operational and radiomobile unit of the Civita Castellana Company,
He is accused of having carried out a robbery in a semi-detached house shortly before and having kidnapped the owner of the house. The individual, armed with a gun, was captured thanks to the timely intervention of the police.
The arrested man and two other criminals surprised the owner in the garden and once inside the property they held the man for about half an hour, under threat of weapons, forcing him to hand over all the cash present in the house, almost 8,000 euros.
In the meantime, a patrol from the nearby Nepi Carabinieri station had arrived on the scene, sent by the Civita Castellana operations center, which in turn had been alerted by a neighbor who had become suspicious of some noises coming from the victim’s home. The three robbers attempted to escape, but the soldiers intervened, blocking, after a heated fight, the alleged robber who had the loot with him, while the other two disappeared into the surrounding countryside, disappearing without a trace. The stolen goods were then recovered and returned to the victim, a small local entrepreneur.
“Thanks to the collaboration of the citizens and the promptness of the patrols, the Carabinieri – underlined by the Carabinieri – were therefore able to foil a serious crime, bringing to justice one of the alleged perpetrators, already associated with the Viterbo prison”.
The investigations continue under the direction of the Viterbo prosecutor’s office, in order to identify the other two accomplices who fled.
