Beyond the national analyzes on the success of Fdi and the debacle of Lega, M5S and Calenda-Renzi, in the Modena area if there is a first major loser of these elections it is certainly Senator Michele Barcaiuolo, leader of FdI. Who had focused a lot on gaining respect and credibility towards the regional leader Galeazzo Bignami. And instead he disappointed on several fronts. Based on data on the European elections, the PD in the province of Modena is growing by an average of 10 points everywhere. He wins big in Modena, Carpi, Soliera, wins where he governs, and can reconquer several municipalities such as Sassuolo and Mirandola. But waiting for the municipal verdictsit is precisely the results at the European Championships, although still partial, that make us reflect.
Stefano Cavedagna known as Cavedania, who in any case achieved an excellent result in the constituency, coming third behind Meloni and her colleague Elena Donazzan, in Modena took only a little more than half of the preferences that Bignami would have asked Barcaiuolo, stopping at the disappointing result of 4700 preferences out of 82,000 votes cast. In the province of Bologna alone he has collected over 20 thousand. To make a homogeneous and meaningful comparison, in 2010 Enrico Aimi received 9,300 preferences in the regional elections, followed by Andrea Leoni with 8,300 – compared to only 72,000 votes cast for their common party, the PDL.
All in all, a disappointing result also for Barcaiuolo’s Modena allies – a sign that when the leader of the main party does not push and imposes only his own candidates and his own choices, not even the allies manage to do well in the area.
Forza Italia and Lega, at 6%, are in fact well below the national result. With Antonio Platis stopping at 1,060 preferences, Francesco Coppi at just under 400 and Stefano Bargi at 950. Among the big names, full result for Roberto Vannacci, who comes close to 5,800 personal preferences in the province, while Tajani has to settle for 1’800.
In the PD house Stefano Bonaccini, who at the constituency level currently reaches 385,000 preferences, in the province obtains 48,000 personal votes – almost 40% of the votes of the party well led by the provincial secretary Roberto Solomita. Giuditta Pini’s result was very disappointing, as with only 5,800 votes she was also surpassed by Elisabetta Gualmini. At AVS Mimmo Lucano widely surpasses the local candidate Paolo Trande, stuck at 1,100 preferences. Excellent result also for Umberto Costantini, who almost reached 1,800 personal subscriptions in Action – an exploit nullified by the disappointing national result, with Calenda’s party not reaching the 4% threshold and for this reason it will remain outside of Europe. Same fate for Giulia Pigoni of United States of Europe, who despite her 1,400 votes and the important support of Giovanni Taurasi, with his 133 personal Carpi votes brought as a gift to her colleague, will not be able to take the train to Brussels – given that Matteo Renzi and Emma Bonino’s party fared even worse than Calenda’s. Finally, it is worth underlining the notable number of preferences expressed in the province for Michele Santoro: almost 1,300, despite his party, Pace Terra Dignità, stopping at just 6,100 votes.
