Cesena, 26 June 2024 – Saturday at 9pm, at the court of Malatesta Fortress the concert of the “Komos LGBTQIA+ choir” is held Bologna.

The performance, with free admission, ranges between different musical genres, and in addition to the artistic aspect also recognized for participation in international competitions and TV formats such as “You are worth it”aims to break down social and cultural stereotypes and every gender discrimination. And apparently there really is a need for it, judging by some aggressive and homophobic comments published by Facebook users accompanying the news.

Komos-Coro it is the first gay male choir in Italy and was founded in 2008 by Paolo V. Montanari, later establishing itself as a social promotion association in July 2012. “In Cesena – says Luciano, their spokesperson – there will be 27 members. The Choir’s repertoire ranges from ancient music, with the performance of Orlando di Lasso’s playful and sixteenth-century composition ‘Matona mia cara, to the present day, passing through Romanticism and the 20th century and popular songs such as Bella ciao which is not missing from the lineup never. For the pop genre we will perform Holding Out For A Hero from Flashdance Of Bonnie Tyler; Alghero Of Giuni Russo and then songs by Mia Martini And Franco Battiato”. “As for verbal violence via social media – adds Luciano – we don’t give it much weight. Unfortunately, there are always those who claim the right to judge and offend”.

The initiative is curated by Agedo (Association of parents, relatives and friends of homosexual people) of Rimini-Cesena, is supported by the Region through the “Diverse and inclusive generations” call, aimed at promoting and achieving equal opportunities and combating discrimination and gender violence.

“The Municipality of Cesena And Jazz Life manager of Rock – comments Tina Scelsi from Agedo -, they demonstrated openness and availability in including the event on the bill. Those who express themselves with vulgar, exaggeratedly aggressive comments lose sight of the fact that it is music and art that the choir comes to propose. And if there are other users who defend the event and those who propose it, sometimes there are those who do it in an awkward way, stating that all children love each other, even those with defects! Training and information must be provided, including to parents, so that they feel less alone. We are light years behindWe’re on a witch hunt. We must seize the best from the differences and enrich ourselves.”

Among the various social interventions, one from a father “but if your son, brother, cousin, best friend confided to you that he was homosexual, what would you do? Would you isolate him, take him to a doctor, an exorcist or continue to have a relationship as you always had before his coming out? We live in free world and each of us is free to love whoever we want. A father of a gay son who adores him and would give his life like all parents tells you this, then who he loves is just a matter of him.”
