Rivers in flood, messages reach citizens with the red alert

The critical situation of the rivers around Modena – with the Secchia nearing a historic flood at Ponte Alto and with the Tiepido near the street level of the Via Emilia Est – is creating considerable apprehension throughout the territory. The Civil Protection has issued a “red” weather alert for the Modena plain and this has also triggered the alert service that is used by the Municipality of Modena to inform citizens about environmental (and non-environmental) critical issues. This is the Nowtice system, which Modena has joined.

Dry and warm at record levels, bridges around Modena still closed. The flood passes

Many citizens therefore received notifications, messages or emails to be warned. In fact, the system uses different technologies: landline telephone line, mobile phone and IO App.

Citizens are therefore invited to pay the utmost attention and follow all the instructions that will be issued on behalf of the mayor and the public authorities. – we read in the message – Please remember that, if evacuation is ordered for the areas/homes at risk, the alarm signal will be given with every means available to the Municipal Administration of Modena. The population is invited to follow the evolution of the situation also through the website of the municipality of Modena, the Emilia Romagna Region and Allerte Italia“.

The message also contains practical instructions to follow. In particular:

No alarmism, therefore, but some useful indications to always keep in mind so as not to underestimate these situations, which unfortunately are becoming more and more frequent.
