Luca Ricci, the 50-year-old son of the elderly couple killed yesterday at home in Fano (province of Pesaro Urbino), was stopped by the police during the night. During the long interrogation which lasted 16 hours he confessed and made some admissions. The motive for the double murder would be of an economic nature.

It was the son of the murdered spouses who called for help. The father, Giuseppe Ricci, 75 years old, had his head smashed with a blunt instrument. The mother, Luisa Marconi, 70, was suffocated.

The son’s debts

The investigations immediately focused on the story of the man, Luca, a worker of around 50 years old, separated from his wife, who was questioned for a long time. The suspect lives on the floor above his parents’ apartment in via Fanella 127.

Luca had incurred debts, around 60 thousand euros, and to help him his parents had sold their house at auction. Yesterday they should have left it to the new owner. He would kill them because they didn’t want to give him any more money after they had already lost their house.

The dynamics of the crime

At 2 am on Sunday his mother called Luca because he wasn’t feeling well. The son went down to his parents’ apartment and took his mother’s blood pressure. An argument broke out, presumably over the money the son kept asking for, and the loss of the house.

Luca Ricci reacted violently, took an electrician’s wire or a cord and strangled his mother in the kitchen. At that point he went to his father’s bedroom. With a hammer from the toolbox he hit him on the head.

The killer goes back to sleep

The man’s attempt at resistance did not last long. Giuseppe Ricci died in a few moments from his wound. The murderer threw the hammer into a well in the garden and went back to sleep upstairs, where his 18-year-old son was also, who didn’t notice anything.

On Monday morning, at around 8, Luca accompanied his son to school for credit recovery courses in Pesaro. Then he returned to Fano, to via Fanella 127, and at around 8.30 he raised the alarm to the police, saying that his parents were not responding, with the door locked from the inside.

Upon their arrival the firefighters found the two lifeless bodies. Then, after 16 hours of interrogation, Luca Ricci’s confession arrived to the prosecutor and to the men of the flying squad and the Fano police station coordinated by the manager Paolo Badioli, with the alleged murderer being transferred to prison under arrest at 3 am.
