in Montone it’s time for the Umbria FIlm Festival

360 degree cinema, in all its facets, returns to fill the squares and places of Montone, for the twenty-eighth edition of the Umbria Film Festival, from 10 to 14 July 2024, with the Artistic Direction of Alessandro De Simone, who the pleasure of presenting the program and the official poster.

Among the events, a film like The Movie Teller by Lone Scherfig, with Daniel Brühl and Bérénice Bejo, which has started a prestigious festival circuit (Toronto International Film Festival, Spanish Film Festival, Milwaukee Film Festival, BiFest, to name a few), and lands in Montone in the presence of the director to give the screening of a jewel not currently available at the cinema or on television.

The program also includes films that the public will be able to see as a preview of their theatrical release, such as Non riattaccare by Manfredi Lucibello, accompanied by the director himself and the lead actress Barbara Ronchi, and the adrenaline-filled In the land of Saint and Sinners, by Robert Lorenz with Liam Neeson, also a preview of the release in theaters on July 17th (with the Italian title I am revenge), as well as The Sweet East, the directorial debut of Sean Price Williams.

Furthermore, the highly acclaimed The Chimera by Alice Rohrwacher, a beloved director who after the screening will receive the keys to the city in an official ceremony, and the homage to the cult The Crow by Alex Proyas, which this year turns 30 and leads to Montone has the aura of a cursed film.

Saturday 13 July tribute to Olivier Assayas with a meeting / conversation with the French director and the screening of his latest film, the intimate and autobiographical Hors du Temp (2024), much applauded at the Berlinale. The tribute to the great French director also continues on Sunday 14 July with the screening, on the occasion of his 30th birthday, of the film L’eau froide.

This edition n.28 also sees the return of the competition dedicated to Italian short films Amarcorti, to which is added Montoons, an international competition for animated short films for children, and the selection of international shorts Image Hunters.

Cinema in Montone, however, also means a look at its ramifications and the “friendly” arts. In fact, every day the “Libri da Bere” format finds space, with a focus on literature and the presentation of books: the new, highly anticipated, graphic novel by the artist, social media star, Mattia Labadessa Maledetto Poeta; Diegopolitik, the novel / essay by Boris Sollazzo on the figure of Maradona between politics, football and society; Love Song for a Vampire, the essay by Gabriella Giliberti which tells the story of the evolution of the vampire as a metaphor for our society; Swinging ’60s, music, cinema, fashion, art and culture in London in the sixties, by Franco Dassisti and Michelangelo Iossa.

Furthermore, the Festival will host the theatrical show Amore – Sarah’s Theorem starring Milena Mancini who tells the life of a couple beyond the clichés, and the concert of La Banda del Committee, the quintet born in the Umbrian countryside which sees Alice Rohrwacher on the accordion and to the voice.

The Pop Saturday dedicated to the 30 years of Il Corvo and Mattia Labadessa is organized in collaboration with UmbriaCon, a comic convention which saw its first edition staged last January with great public success.

Also this year the President of Umbria Film Festival will be Terry Gilliam, honorary citizen of Montone since 2010.
