This is how he begins Mariano Di Gioianew General Secretary of the provincial Filcams CGIL: “What social model does this Administration want to build for the City?”

They grow tourist rentals in Sienabut the Filcams Cgil raises the alarm: “What are the implications for work and the social fabric?”. The union calls for an urgent discussion with the municipal administration.

A “boom” in tourist rentals that worries the union. Mariano Di Gioianew General Secretary of Filcams Cgil of Siena, expresses strong apprehension about the data released by the Municipality regarding the increase in non-hotel accommodation facilities.

“It is necessary to clarify what is meant by extra hotel structure“, says Di Gioia, “to distinguish between structured companies and non-entrepreneurial family-run ones”.

The trade unionist underlines how the uncontrolled growth of tourist rentals does not translate into quality tourism, nor into a fair distribution of resources for workers in the sector. Only those who would benefit from it would be property ownersto the detriment of operators who operate correctly on the market.

Di Gioia also criticizes the Councilor’s position Arrived, concerned only with the phenomenon of undeclared work, leaving aside the impact of tourist rentals on the social fabric: “The uncontrolled increase in private rentals for tourist use contributes to the depopulation of the historic center and to the surge in prices, penalizing young couples and seasonal workers, often forced to live far from the workplace.”

Filcams Cgil calls for a reversal of direction and a serious discussion with all the social partners: “The relaunch of commercial activities in Siena passes through rent control policies”.

The Secretary concludes with a question: “What social model does this Administration want to build for the city? In addition to economic operators, it is essential to listen to those who represent workers in the sector”.

Filcams Cgil hopes for decisive action by the Municipality to prevent the “boom” in tourist rentals from translating into an impoverishment of the social and working fabric of the city.
