“Huge damage due to water shortages”, Confcommercio: “Institutions must intervene”

Frost. Confcommercio Ascom, represented by president Francesco Trainito, expresses deep concern about the current water emergency that is affecting the city. Water shortages are inflicting significant damage on hospitality facilities and public places, putting strain on the entire business community. “Businesses in our area are facing an unprecedented crisis due to the lack of water. Accommodation facilities, restaurants and bars are among the most affected, with serious repercussions not only on the local economy but also on the tourist image,” explained Trainito. The situation, already critical, risks worsening as the summer season approaches, a crucial period for the tourism and commercial sector. “It is unthinkable that in 2024 a city like Gela, with such an important tourist and commercial vocation, would have to face such an emergency. We strongly ask for immediate and decisive intervention by the competent authorities to guarantee an adequate and continuous water supply”, added the president. Confcommercio Ascom acts as spokesperson for the requests of commercial operators and invites local and regional institutions to deploy all the resources necessary to resolve this situation. “It is essential that structural solutions are found to prevent the recurrence of these water crises, which irreparably damage the economic and social fabric of our city,” the association says.
