From 1 July to 31 August will be in force throughout the regional territory absolute ban on burning plant residues. As the Tuscany Region explains in a note, it is in the same two months any kindling of fires is also prohibited, with the exception of cooking food on braziers and barbecues located in homes or appurtenances and within equipped areas.

Even in these cases, however, the provisions of the forestry regulation must be observed. Failure to comply with the prevention rules entails the application of heavy sanctions provided for by the provisions in this area.

NUMBERS TO CALL

Anyone who spots a fire is asked to promptly report it to the toll-free number 800.425.425 of the regional forest fire operations room or to the single European emergency number 112.

THE FIRE FORECAST BULLETIN

The Tuscany Region, in collaboration with the LaMMA Consortium and Cnr-Ibe, has set up a forest fire risk prediction system in the Tuscan territory which uses the Canadian FWI index (Fire Weather Index) to determine the level of development and propagation risk on a daily basis of fire in the regional territory and issue the relevant bulletin.

During the fire risk period the bulletin is published on the home page of the Tuscany Region.

The risk classification is the result of a procedure shared at national level to identify four levels of danger, as already happens, for example, for weather warnings.

The four risk classes are associated with as many colors which, for each individual municipality in Tuscany, allow you to immediately visualize the level of danger of starting and spreading forest fires. In addition to risk monitoring, the bulletin hosts a section that highlights the correct behavior that each of us must adopt, both to avoid starting a forest fire and in the event of sighting the beginning of a fire.

How the AIB Regional Organization Works

The active fight is operationally coordinated by a regional room (SOUP) and by 7 provincial operational centers (COP AIB) active in the months of July and August from 8am to 8pm.

The management of the extinguishing operations is carried out by 170 technicians from the Tuscany Region and the competent bodies.

In the area, Unions of Municipalities, the Metropolitan City of Florence, Regional Municipalities and Park Authorities are involved, organizing operational teams made up of approximately 400 forestry workers suitable for AIB, supported by the AIB volunteer associations that in Tuscany bring together approximately 4,000 volunteers, including members of the Tuscan Volunteer Coordination and the Italian Red Cross.

The AIB regional fleet to support land forces includes a variable deployment of up to a maximum of ten helicopters, in relation to risk conditions.
