From an idea born from a small company in Rieti, now on its fourth stage after crossing Lazio and Abruzzo, the information panel for travelers was unveiled on Saturday morning at Terni station. This is an inter-territorial valorisation project of the youth cultural association ‘Riattivati’, with the contribution of Fai and Intesa Sanpaolo. July 20th will be the stage that will involve the Marmore station.

«This project – explained Carla Lemmi of the Terni delegation of the Fai – was included in the census of ‘Places of the heart’, which the Fai organizes every 2 years, and obtained many votes. As Fai we shared the objective of valorising lesser-known villages, but rich in history and culture.” Antonio Spadoni Valloni of Riattivati has the task of explaining in more detail: «The project – he said – concerns the Terni-Rieti-L’Aquila-Sulmona railway section and has the aim of enhancing 16 stations that are located along this route thanks to educational plaques aimed at giving travelers further information on the surrounding area and making the journey more engaging. Last week we unveiled the panel in Sulmona, on the 1st it will arrive at the same time in Rieti and L’Aquila and today we are here, unfortunately disappointed because we do not see the participation of either RFI, as happened in other cities, or the Municipality of Terni the only one at the moment not to have given patronage to the initiative.”

The transport councilor of the Umbria Region, Enrico Melasecche, thanked FAI, underlining that «the Umbria Region is currently reopening the entire Umbrian central railway, but, together with the Terni-Perugia section, also the City of Castello-Sansepolcro, in Tuscany. We intend to create a connection between the line we are talking about today and the Umbrian central railway because today the trains of the Umbrian central railway are necessarily connected to the fifth track and not to the first where the Terni-Rieti leaves. Load breakage must be avoided, i.e. travelers in Terni having to get off and change tracks. We are also particularly interested in the theme, which is more than FAI, of ensuring that there are historic trains that from Sulmona follow the line to Rieti, come to Terni and then continue towards northern Umbria. Let’s unite another region like Umbria with its beauty and its history.” The Umbria Region, concluded the councilor, «is also particularly interested in reopening relationships here that had begun with Lazio, only with Civitavecchia and Viterbo but I believe that Rieti is fundamental, therefore resuming the Civiter project by extending it to Rieti in order to be able to discuss of common problems such as high speed, tourism, the Terni-Rieti route and reaching the port of Civitavecchia”.
