The Lions Club Viareggio Versilia Host carried out the recovery and restoration of the poster which in Piazza Massimo D’Azeglio, in front of the Hotel Plaza, commemorates the victims of the Viareggio massacre on 29 June.

“In the autumn of 2012 – he remembers the Lions president, Luca Lunardini – the Club, then led by the late Gianfranco Parenti, wanted to remember the victims of the massacre with a poster placed in front of the Hotel Plaza, at the time the headquarters of the Lions. The passage of time and bad weather had progressively deteriorated the work to the point of making it almost illegible. The Club decided to finance its restoration, entrusting the work to master Emilio Cinquini who carried out the work impeccably. Remembering that terrible night is a duty and a necessity for every fellow citizen and the Lions immediately wanted to contribute to supporting the memory and condolences for the event”.

“It is no coincidence that in the months immediately following the massacre the Tuscan Lions wanted to carry out the monument that today everyone can see in the Parco degli Angeli facing via Ponchielli. Monument which is also undergoing restoration in view of the next anniversary of 29 June – he concludes -. I heartily thank the president, Daniela Rombi, and other representatives of the Mondo che Diritti association, for their presence this morning at the unveiling of the renewed poster. Their action as a victims’ association was and is simply indispensable. Viareggio does not forget“.
