The thirteenth edition of ‘Trieste Crossroads of Cultures’ closes today

22.06.2024 – 9.30 – Concludes today “Trieste Crossroads of cultures” tourist-cultural route between people, folklore And different religions. Arrived at thirteenth edition, the event, promoted by Altamarea Events in co-organization with the Common Of Trieste and with the collaboration ofMittelnet Travel Agency, which aims to enhance the multiculturalism that has always characterized Trieste with guided tours, folk dances, walks, tastings of typical products and market exhibitions: a crossroads, precisely, as the title of the annual event inaugurated suggests Friday 14 Juneby the Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Economic Policies, Serena Tonel at 10.15 in Piazza Ponterosso.

On the sidelines of the ribbon cutting, Deputy Mayor Tonel remarked how “this trade fair-type event is enriched by a whole series of cultural insights into the cosmopolitan aspect of the city, also involving the traditional religious communities of Trieste and exploring the social aspect of our city” and underlined that “the event, now consolidated, has based its success precisely on this aspect of in-depth analysis”.

Historically Trieste represents a crossroads of languages, civilisations, cultures and religions. And it is precisely this peculiarity of the city that the event traditionally intends to celebrate and make known through the active involvement of Ethno-religious communities of Trieste. They were nine intense days dedicated to friendship between peoples: a tribute to the many cultural specificities of the different communities that make up Trieste. The absolute protagonists of the event were once again art, the popular traditions and thearchitecture of a city in which different cultures and traditions have intertwined and coexisted for centuries: symbol and synthesis of the suggestions of the Mediterranean culture and those that come from Central and Eastern Europe.

This year too there were numerous guided visits to the places of worship that have enjoyed such success in past editions, with visits to the city villas, historic homes of important Trieste families who were protagonists of the social, economic and cultural life of the city and new cultural proposals. The heart of the event was, as usual, the Borgo Teresiano: Piazza Ponterosso, Via Bellini and Via Cassa di Risparmio.

After the success of the previous edition, visits to the Old Port and in particular to Hydrodynamic Power Plant, a walk to discover the Borgo Giuseppino and a journey to discover the monumental trees, a visit to the Villa Revoltella and to the artist’s house “Psacaropulo Study” carried out in collaboration with Mittelnet Travel Agency of Trieste. New this year was the visit to the Rosenfeld sponge factory Of Muggia and a lesson-concert by the Civic Wind Orchestra “G. Verdi” – City of Trieste.

Finally, there was no shortage of culinary proposals and dishes typical cuisines, which have made up the city’s varied multicultural and multilingual mosaic for centuries. The religious communities were involved again this year, with performances and visits to their churches, such as visits to the Greek Orthodox and Serbian Orthodox Churches. Today, at 10.30, it will be “Borgo Franceschino from Viale XX Settembre to the Public Garden. Path to discover the monumental trees of Trieste” edited by Marco Paparot, naturalistic guide in collaboration with the Ass. Trieste Supportive. The meeting will be at the Fontana dei Mascheroni at the beginning of Viale XX Settembre. Places are limited and you can book online on the agency website or at the office (Via San Giorgio 7/A).
