Varese: Former Aermacchi, Galimberti ready to mediate

“In recent years the administration has always worked to ensure that the planning process for the redevelopment of the former Aermacchi progressed in the interest of the neighborhood and the city, activating all the necessary steps to regenerate the abandoned space such as the adoption and approval of the plan carried out in August 2023”.
Thus Mayor Davide Galimberti the day after the opinion of the Superintendence, which rejected a quarter of the project proposed by the Tigros Group.

“The redevelopment of the former Aermacchi and the numerous disused and abandoned areas already redeveloped, or in the process of redevelopment – continues the mayor – are today changing the face of the city. The demolition of the abandoned properties in the Aermacchi area, and the reclamations already carried out, are giving a glimpse of the benefits of the regeneration work, in particular for the neighborhoods of Masnago, Brunella and part of the city centre.

“Having said this – continues the mayor – the opinion of the Superintendence referred to by the owners is a favorable opinion of the intervention and therefore it does not appear that, at present, there are any real hypotheses of downsizing what has already been agreed by the Municipality in agreement with the Superintendence . As often happens in the regeneration and refunctionalization of listed assets, the Superintendency, in trying to maximize recovery, also through these measures, opens reflections and debates that push all the parties involved – ownership, Superintendence and Municipality – to improve solutions, without this having to however, lengthen the times of the proceedings and the implementation of the interventions”.

“It is therefore clear – insists Mayor Galimberti – precisely because of the importance of the intervention and the many positive effects for the city and the citizens, and also because of the much work done, that the Municipality cares a lot about this project. In fact, regeneration, in addition to the recovery of listed buildings, has numerous aspects that must be considered and protected, in particular environmental, social and sporting ones which have significant consequences for the entire surrounding area. I am thinking, for example, of the creation of new green areas and modern sports facilities open to the city such as the Olympic swimming pool. The administration is therefore ready – concludes the mayor – as it has already demonstrated in the past, to find the right mediations between the operator and the Superintendence, in the interests of the city and the rapid recovery of the listed buildings, also considering the needs of those who invest to bring back this area to be fully used by citizens”.

The summary of what was said by the Superintendence
