PISTOIA – The start is at 7.30 on Sunday 30 June: in Piazza del Duomo, almost 1,300 participants will face the Pistoia-Abetone Ultramarathon and Quarto Traguardo.

The alternation between climbs and descents creates the most difficult route for any runner to face, the Pistoia Mountains act as a backdrop with its evocative beauty 47th edition of the marathon.

This morning the press conference at the headquarters of the ASCD Silvano Fedi Committee, attended among others by the president Guido Amerini, the president of the Province Luca Marmo and the tourism councilor Alessandro Sabella. For Pistoia-Abetone this year a mural, at the Committee headquarters and which will be inaugurated today, created by the students of class 3E of the Brunelleschi Art School in Montemurlo with an agreement with ASDC Silvano Fedi.

As mentioned, preparations are underway for the 50 kilometer Pistoia-Abetone marathon in which the athletes (registrations end on 23 June) will go from the 65 meters (asl) of Pistoia to the 1388 of Abetone with the finish line in Piazza delle Piramidi. Saturday 29 June, the day before the event, the appointment is at the “La Cattedrale” exhibition center in via Pertini with the “Pistoia-Abetone” Expo (non-stop hours 9.30 – 20).

There are three routes for the competing athletes: l50 kilometers away (Pistoia-Abetone. The race is valid as the Italian FIDAL 50km Absolute and Master Championship, as the Italian IUTA 50km Uphill Championship, for the IUTA Italian Ultramarathon Grand Prix and Regional Criterium in the Central area, for the National Championship (Abetone finish line) and Regional (intermediate finish line San Marcello Pistoiese) Gran Fondo Donatori AVIS and for the “Romagna-Tuscany” Challenge; the 30 kilometers (Pistoia-San Marcello, the intermediate finish line of San Marcello counts as the UISP Tuscany Regional Road Running Championship); the walk”Free Walking” (San Marcello-Abetone, distance 20 kilometers). And then the flagship of the initiative, the “Fourth Milestone” (Le Regine-Abetone, distance 3 kilometres), a route reserved for disabled people with their companions with free registration. Finally the Trekkingwith the “Night crossing from the Portafranca refuge to Abetone” (about 8 hours).

The competition is sponsored by the Tuscany Region. The Permanent Promotion Committee is made up of the Province of Pistoia, the Municipalities involved in the race and the ASCD Silvano Fedi of Pistoia which takes care of its organisation. (ra)
