The Teatro Stabile del Veneto is ready to start the 2024/25 season with a varied and ambitious offer that it presented to the public in recent days in Venice (pictured are the personalities who attended), entitled “Colpo di scene”. The new artistic director Filippo Dini, appointed in recent months, aims to bring together various factors: 360 degree openness to more types of spectators, the presence of important names on the stage and the interpretation of great classics, but also the link with the territory and the experimentation of languages, with an eye to sustainability and inclusion. All for a program of over eighty shows that start on 11 October and will continue until May of the following year, of which 39 are produced (or co-produced) directly by the Teatro Stabile del Veneto, distributed between the stages of the Verdi di Padova, the Del Monaco of Treviso and Goldoni of Venice; in some cases, they are making their absolute debut. Added to these are other events such as meetings with scientists, writers and musicians, as well as programming for high schools, theater projects at the Maddalene in Padua, concerts and dance performances. Nor should we neglect what started in recent weeks with the ongoing summer, between the workshops and the exhibitions. «We have dedicated a lot of attention to the authors, so that the public can range between multiple genres – explains Filippo Dini – This, while trying to guarantee maximum accessibility of the languages proposed: each performance must be understandable and enjoyable for those who see it; in other words, it must seek simplicity and immediacy, without falling into simplifications and banality. As a director I myself prided myself on the fact of being “popular”, while many colleagues shied away from it. Yet, if we think about it, in the history of theater the major authors were often extremely popular for their contemporaries: Shakespeare, Molière or Goldoni, just to give an example. Goldoni will also have a leading role in the season to come, given the rooting of his comedies in Venetian civilization, and his role as a great innovator of dramaturgical writing after the experience of commedia dell’arte.” However, much attention has also been paid to the actors who will appear, given the famous names present: Silvio Orlando, Toni Servillo, Giuliana De Sio, Sergio Rubini, Luca Barbareschi, Gianni Fantoni, Alessio Boni, Alessandro Preziosi are just a few; the latter two, however, will perform at the Verdi in Padua, together with Lodo Guenzi and others.

The staging of “The Terrible Relatives” by Jean Cocteau (national premiere on 6 November) directed by Filippo Dini is also scheduled for the main stage in Padua. But beware of focusing only on the programming of a single theatre. «The strength of the Stabile del Veneto is precisely that it is spread across three cities – continues the artistic director – three different cities that act as spokespersons for as many different but connected territorial realities. It means a greater connection with what surrounds them. For me this is an added value, if compared, for example, with those national theaters concentrated only on the large cities in which they are based and which are disconnected from the surrounding area. I say this because, as a Genoese by origin and Roman by adoption, I shot several when I was an actor and director.” A widespread theatre, therefore, which encourages collaborations on an international scale. «One was born with the Italian Drama – Croatian National Theater of Rijeka-HNK Rijeka, always based on Goldoni’s repertoire». For the rest, it is difficult to summarize the many proposals of the new season because, in putting them together, Dini and his collaborators tried to explore every possible language and form of artistic contamination. It is no coincidence that the inauguration will be “Titizé – A Venetian dream”, at the Goldoni (summer show in Venice, scheduled from 18 July), with its mix of clowning and circus acrobatics. And what about trumpeter Paolo Fresu who will tell, in words and music, the life and work of Miles Davis, from 11 to 15 December at Del Monaco? Or the cycle from the Mythos festival, based on classical theater and the hero, also at Del Monaco? There is no shortage of artistic tributes either, such as for the one hundred years since the death of Eleonora Duse and the seven hundred years since that of Marco Polo. The offer includes reduced-price admissions for both university students and disabled people (and companions): the email is dedicated for these (info and reservations [email protected]).
