CANISTER. The Ini clinic in Canistro, specialized in prosthetic surgery, hosted the first of a series of lessons, directly in the operating room and according to the American “surgeon to surgeon” model, which was focused on cutting-edge techniques and materials in prosthetic interventions hip prosthesis.
The training was done by Fernando Marcucci, head of Orthopedics at Ini, with the participation of Sicilian doctors, including a head doctor. A second training session is scheduled for next week, with doctors from other Italian regions.
“The courses represent an important opportunity to transmit knowledge with colleagues – explains Marcucci – As regards hip surgery, which adopts the anterior access method, which minimizes the impact on tendons and muscles, unlike of lateral access, the aid of computerized navigation, and above all increasingly smaller prostheses, with a cutting-edge approach that is no longer just ‘bone-saving’, but rather ‘material-saving’”.
And again: “The demand for participation in our courses is already very high, and this flatters us, and allows us to spread skills that are placed along the new frontier of hip prosthetics, which have patient satisfaction as their focus. Until a few years ago, in fact, much more interest was attributed to the durability and resistance of the materials, but today they have reached the level of excellence and therefore we can focus on the performativity of the prostheses, on their minimal invasiveness, to guarantee rapid recovery post-operative of the patient, and his quality of life”, concludes Marcucci.
