WEDGE NEWS – We receive from the State Police: “On the occasion of the Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the G7 which – from 13 to 15 June – met in Borgo Egnazia, in the Municipality of Fasano in Puglia, to address the major global issues, it is the temporary restoration of controls at internal land, sea and air borders has been arranged at a national level, in relation to the high risks to internal security connected to the international scenario, undermined by conflicts, terrorist threats and disturbances to public order and security of an anarchic nature -insurrectionist and antagonist.

In consideration of the government decisions, of the provisions of the Department of Public Security and of what was determined in the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Security chaired by the Prefect of Cuneo Dr. Fabrizia Triolo, the Police Commissioner of the Province of Cuneo, has arranged the surveillance services with the use of the Border Police of Limone Piemonte which made use of the support of the Carabinieri and Army personnel.

On the mountain passes of Colle della Maddalena, della Lombarda and dell’Agnello, on the railway crossing of Limone Piemonte and the airport of Levaldigi, all internal borders with France, border controls have been restored and manned day and night by the Border Police land and air from the Limone Piemonte sector and by reinforcement personnel from the Carabinieri and the Italian Army, the latter employed as part of the “Safe Roads” operation.

Border controls were activated from June 5th and continued until 2pm on June 18th with checks that did not impact either road traffic or the movement of residents of those cross-border areas. Overall, in the period indicated above, around 90 patrols were deployed and over 1000 people traveling on international cars, trains and planes were checked.

“Also thanks to the collaboration of the Carabinieri and the Army and the excellent synergy with the management bodies of the railways, road infrastructures (Anas SpA) and the airport (Geac SpA), it was possible to complete the delicate services and contribute to the security of the G7 event held in Puglia” highlighted the Director of the Border Police Sector Dr. Martino Santacroce”.
