LEGNANO – The “street tutors” (in the photo) will be back in action in Legnano tomorrow evening, Friday 21 June. The restart coincides with the first weekend of summer, although due to unfavorable weather forecasts it was postponed to a date to be established the “Night in the Center” scheduled for tomorrow. The urban safety initiative, with educational-information purposes towards the population regarding the current norms and rules of good coexistence and conduct and which is part of the Legnano SiCura project, was carried out in an experimental form in September and October 2023.
The street tutors, figures specially trained and employed by a company specialized in risk prevention activities in open public spaces, particularly frequented by young people, have the task of informing and raising awareness among users of these areas about municipal ordinances and regulations by inviting, in in this way, to behavior that follows the principles of good education and civil coexistence.
Pavan: «A complex strategy that starts from informing»
For the councilor for “wellbeing and social security”, Anna Pavan, «the confirmation of the street tutors is consistent with our urban safety strategy, which includes both the prevention aspect, with actions aimed at promoting the culture of legality, and that of repression, as was the case recently with the intervention of the Milan dog unit, an initiative adopted and confirmed since the installation of this administration. It is important to underline the link between the activity of these figures, the local police and the associations and cooperatives that operate in the Falcone Borsellino Park on some weekends to provide information on the risks of alcohol and drug abuse and to carry out entertainment: only with a structured strategy it is possible to address issues that require, due to their complexity, different methods and levels of intervention”.
In service for 30 evenings
Street tutors will be active in the city in the summer season on weekends (Friday and Saturday evenings from 10pm to 2am) and at events such as Rugby Sound (starting from 9pm); in September only on Saturday evenings and during the Luna Park period on Saturday evenings and Thursday 31 October until 9 November, for around thirty evenings in total. At the end of each evening they will draw up a report on the performance of the service with the main events, the critical issues encountered and recommendations that may be useful to the public administration and the local police. Operators will be recognizable thanks to a high visibility bib with the Municipality logo.
