Three artists from Arezzo united in the newborn Trio Contro Tempo in an unprecedented combination of instruments and voice. This all-female formation relies on the voice of the soprano Gaia Matteini, the cello of Elisa Pieschi and the piano of Leonora Baldelli who, already individually engaged in concert activity of international importance, have started a synergistic path to propose in Italy and abroad a vast musical repertoire that ranges from the 19th century to the contemporary. The first commitment outside the national borders is set for the month of October in Malaga, with a concert in the “Maria Cristina” hall of the Andalusian city.

The meeting between the three artists took place during a music competition where the examining commission was made up of Matteini, Pieschi and Baldelli who, on the occasion, laid the foundations for the development of a new project where vocal virtuosity of the soprano are accompanied by the harmonies of the cello and the notes of the piano. The shared work has allowed us to develop a repertoire that includes well-known songs and rarely performed arias, with a journey through folk music, classical music and a particular homage to Giacomo Puccini on the occasion of the centenary of his death, as well as pages by Gershwin, Montsalvatge, Weill, Arlen, Sherman, Guastavino, Piazzolla or Piovani who are covered with new sounds to involve the public.

A large part of the repertoire is also specially arranged or composed for the Trio Contro Tempo by musicians of the caliber of Marco Pontini, Nicola Menci, Stefano Falleri and Francesca Gambelli who accepted the invitation to put their creations at the service of timbric and expressive possibilities of this combination of instruments and voice. Just in recent days, with this in mind, the well-known composer Ilio Volante created the unreleased song “Vasa Inania” specifically for the Arezzo trio. The first performances have already taken place in very important contexts such as the “Musica al Centro” season of the Centro Studi Musicali della Valtiberina which was followed by concerts in prestigious locations such as the Casa Menotti Museum in Spoleto, Casa Verdi in Milan, the Marianum Auditorium in Perugia or Unoaerre Gold Museum in Arezzo. Further information on the formation is available on the Facebook page of the same name or on the YouTube channel where it will also be possible to have a taste of the songs of Trio Contro Tempo.

«The trio was born following an in-depth mutual understanding during a music competition – explains Gaia Matteini – where an immediate and not obvious desire to collaborate was created. An unprecedented and original formation has thus taken its first steps with a unique harmony in interpreting songs composed by great authors of yesterday and today with a project that has already received attention also on an international level, as demonstrated by the possibility of playing in a as prestigious as the “Maria Cristina” room in Malaga”.
