ROME – The Ministry of Culture has drawn up a ranking to distribute, by merit, the contributions of the Fus to the subjects that are committed to the diffusion of theatrical culture in Italy. The ranking sees the Foundation Veneto Stable Theatre – National Theatre first in the ranking, while Rovigo, with the Teatro Sociale, is among the 7 theaters in Italy that will not see any cut in FUS contributions, constantly growing in overall score.

“The Italian public theater was born in Veneto at the end of the Renaissance with a precise date and place: 1637 in Venice. In that year, near Campo San Cassian, the first theater open to the public came into being. Today, almost 400 years later, Veneto still excels as the seat of artistic and cultural excellence of the entire nation: for the first time in history, the Teatro Stabile del Veneto is the first theater in Italy” he declared the president of the Venetian regional council Luca Zaia.

“The scores assigned to the Stabile by the Commission of the Ministry of Culture have exceeded 90, leading to the Teatro Stabile del Veneto being declared the first National Theatre based on management efficiency, employment levels of artistic and technical workers, performance days, artistic quality and sustainable development actions. This is an absolutely deserved recognition for the capable management governance and the excellent artistic quality of the proposals,” commented Zaia.

“We cannot help but say that we are extremely proud of this extraordinary result. As the Veneto Region, we have invested a great deal in the development of one of the most important cultural realities in our territory, with important economic and international prestige implications.

Zaia thanked and complimented the president of the Fondazione del Teatro Stabile del Veneto Giampiero Beltotto “for the passion, professionalism and abilities demonstrated in carrying forward, with unwavering foresight and critical planning, a program that has disseminated the path of the Foundation of extraordinary successes.”

Even the senator of the League for Salvini Premier Andrea Ostellari declared the Teatro Stabile “the pride of our territory”

“For the first time in the history of our country, the Teatro Stabile del Veneto has been recognized as the leading theater in Italy.

The result achieved makes our territory proud which, due to its vocation and history, deserves this newfound centrality at a national level.

Good ideas, a broad offering and the ability to attract and retain viewers are some of the keys to this success. Veneto takes another decisive step forward of which politics and the business community should be proud. Without culture and without roots there is no economic and social development” declared the Undersecretary of State for Justice, Ostellari.
