Sanremo. It revolves around the figure of the president of the Province and mayor of Imperia Claudio Scajola the third to last day of the Sanremo election campaign. Today the center-right candidate relaunched the political role of the former minister Gianni Rolandoduring a press point called at the last minute to counter the statements made this morning by the challenger to the run-off Alessandro Mager.
«When Gianni Rolando becomes mayor he will fight only and exclusively for Sanremo», – began the local leader of the government parties, speaking of himself in the third person -. «The fact that Scajola said vote for Mager makes me neither hot nor cold. We note that he, however, declared it. I am for the line of being in charge at home: I will take all the necessary actions not to block the privatization of water but to verify that everything has been done well, with the aim of publicizing the service”.
Still on Scajola, Rolando continued: «A common line can be found with him. Scajola can be in charge of his house and he does very well to do so. I say: Scajola shouldn’t be in charge in Sanremo. Mine is not a war on the person, on the contrary, together we can make a virtuous path. But Sanremo can no longer tolerate the Borea hospital losing departments to the one in Imperia. There must once again be a political confrontation between the two most important cities of the province which perhaps has disappeared in recent times.”
The double role. «As president of the Province, Mayor Scajola has favored his city over ours. It is not a mortal sin but this double role of him needs to be reviewed: for me the president should not be the mayor of Imperia, Sanremo or Ventimiglia. Let’s look at what is happening with Riviera Trasporti. I see a better level of service in the Imperia area to the detriment of the Sanremo area. I will fight to reverse the trend.”
Contacts with the centre-left. «I really appreciated that a true center-left has been reconstituted in our city. It is important to have the two fronts communicating in a correct relationship of majority and opposition. Instead, the rumors about contacts between Fellegara and Mager leave me perplexed. The civic project would collapse. It would be a clumsy attempt to propose the Biancheri ter with the sole aim of recovering votes. It is no coincidence that the left-wing list, Progetto Comune, has expressed its opinion not to share the line of supporting Mager”.
Discontinuity as a key word. «We talk about the new and the old. All those who were in the administration with Biancheri were candidates on Mager’s lists. It’s the total continuity of him. The city has already said that it does not want this continuity, given that it voted for me at 42% and Fellegara at 20%, two coalitions of discontinuity. I expect the same coherence from Fellegara as Progetto Comune. An agreement on seats would be detrimental to all of them. If this were to tighten, it doesn’t worry me anyway. The electorates of both those sides are very distant, one center-right and the other center-left. There would be disorientation and I don’t rule out that in the general confusion someone could vote for me who is convinced anti-fascist like them”.
The lock. «The most voted in the civic coalition are people who leave the current Administration and will return with Mager’s victory. I’m as good as pie but don’t let anyone attack me with nonsense, accusing me of being an old man in politics. Mager represents a law firm that has been with the city for 40 years. Let the city choose between Rolando the engineer or Mager the criminal lawyer. Point”.
