Youth basketball, Bakery Piacenza continues to sweat and have fun

It was a busy weekend, this last one, for the Bakery Basket Piacenza, operational on multiple fronts with its youth teams.

Coach Davide Giovanetti’s Aquilotti group participated in the Memorial G. Valla in Podenzano, playing an entire afternoon on the outdoor pitch against the teams of Pode Basket and the women’s Piacenza Basket Club.

A more distant and long commitment for the Rookies, a joint group of the class of 2012 between the Bakery and Piacenza BC, who participated from 14 to 16 June in The Valley tournament, an event taking place in the Varese area and organized by Progetto Ma.Go. Even in this circumstance, given the period, the result takes on relative importance. However, the amalgam that has already been created between the boys of the coaches Marco Malavasi and Riccardo Tomassini is fundamental, in view of the next season which promises to be certainly exciting.

Another opportunity to deal with different realities also for the red and white Under 16 team, which in the last championship achieved the historic result of the regional semi-final in the Gold championship. Coach Ludovico Bazzoni’s boys took part in the Underwater Dome Cup in Arenzano, a quadrangular tournament in which they challenged the teams from Gamma Segrate, Sestri Basket and Pall on Saturday 15 June. Athena. “It was the opportunity for the 2008 and 2009 boys of the Bakery and Piacenza Basket Club to start the journey together – the words of the red and white coach -, in view of the next Under 17 championship. A challenging tournament, three matches against teams of Excellence for raise the bar once again and test yourself against higher level teams and players. The greatest success is the desire to improve and have fun which leads the boys to look for something more even at the end of the season. A great way to say that the passion for basketball never goes on holiday. We thank Sestri Basket for the invitation and the organization.”

Indeed, passion and commitment do not go on holiday at the Bakery house. Despite the end of their competitive commitments, the Under 19s are continuing their training in the gym very seriously. The aim is to work to improve, to overcome one’s own limits. And it should be underlined that for many of these children it is also time for school exams.

“The season this year was very positive in the first phase – the words of coach Alessandro Bernini -, in which the boys improved some of their shortcomings. This was also seen in the results, ranking in the top three positions of a difficult championship like the Gold one.” The Bakery came within one victory of qualifying for the second phase which would then have given them access to the national finals. “When it counts you need to believe in yourself and your teammates, sacrificing yourself for the finish line. This involves effort, which is not easy to put in not by will but by habit. We didn’t manage to realize this dream, but it was a great lesson because the primary objective is not the result but to train players, which especially at this age means becoming a senior soon. With this in mind, we have united the groups with Piacenza Basket Club to unite the boys who are working so hard in view of next season. We have excellent growth expectations – concluded Bernini – and we will try to reap the benefits”.
