TRENT. A new cycle/pedestrian path, with an elevatorto connect the train station at the Intermodal Hub under construction informer Sit area. Green light from the Municipality for the technical-administrative feasibility assessment document.

Financed with a budget change of 500 thousand eurosthe project involves a series of works to create a path of gentle mobility which starts from the train station to connect, with a protected route along the eastern border of the railway area, to the overpass San Lorenzo railway and then, on the west side, to the new extra-urban transport station being built in the former Sit car park.

The route, of around 400 metres, explains the municipal administration, is more direct than the current one, involves a barrier via lift and the aim is to riqualify some areas of the city (such as Piazza Da Vinci and the Piazza della Portela area in general), with a view to improving liveability, safety and cycle-pedestrian connections.

The executive project is expected by mid-2025 and completion of the work by mid-2026, in time for the start of operations of the new bus station.

The development project of the former Sit area, continues the Municipality of Trento, involves the construction of a new city intermodal hub which has among its objectives a more effective and close interrelationship between the different mobility systems: the Brenner railway line and the Valsugana and Trento-Malé railway lines, the extra-urban road service lines, urban road transport lines, the cable car to Sardagna and Monte BondoneThe shared bicycle service).

The relocation of the bus station also provides for a simplification of accessibility and a rationalization of vehicle routes with a reduction in traffic in the central part of the city. The project of intermodal hub is currently under construction, the testing forecast is by March 31, 2026. The transfer of the activities of the extra-urban transport station will take place during the same year.

The project takes into account the prospect of landfilling the city section of the railwaywhich also includes the subsequent elimination of the San Lorenzo railway overpass, facilitating north/south as well as east/west connections.

The different timings planned for the construction of the underground section of the railway (which will allow a direct connection between the two stations in the future) and for the activation of the new extra-urban transport station in the former Sit area in 2026 makes it appropriate to create a system of more direct connections for soft mobility between the train station and the new suburban transport station.
