How patients are selected

Patient selection occurs through collaboration among the social services of the Municipality, Caritas, social canteens and other associations who work daily to combat uncomfortable situations. These bodies form a permanent table on poverty to identify the most urgent cases. General practitioners also actively participate in reporting patients who need immediate assistance.

The need for a project like “Kum” is particularly felt in a city where requests for assistance from the most disadvantaged groups they are on the rise. Many people, in fact, give up treatment due to economic difficulties, as highlighted by Istat’s latest Report on Fair and Sustainable Wellbeing. In 2023, 4.5% of the Italian population has given up on treatment due to long waiting lists and 4.2% for economic reasons.

An initiative that not only improves access to medical care, but also promotes greater awareness and sensitivity towards the rights and needs of the animal world. Thanks to the generosity and dedication of the doctors involved, “Kum” contributes to building a more equitable and supportive society, where health and well-being are accessible to allregardless of economic conditions.
