War in Ukraine: a thousand members join the municipal hub

Following the declaration of the state of emergency on 7 March 2022, the Municipality took action to ensure relief and assistance to the Ukrainian population present in the area. According to data recorded by the municipal civil protection, in recent days, one thousand Ukrainian citizens from war zones have been registered. Among these, 516 adults and 203 minors welcomed by families from Grosseto. The remainder instead found shelter in other places in the province. The reception was implemented in collaboration with the numerous associations accredited in civil protection volunteering. The family units were placed in various types of structures, such as private homes in the city, uninhabited apartments in small villages and extraordinary reception centers set up by the Prefecture offices. The hub in the Pace room, which remained open from early March 2022 until the end of January 2023, saw the permanent presence of municipal civil protection personnel, workers from the South East Tuscany Local Health Authority, volunteers and native language translators of the Arezzo section of the Oxfam Italia onlus cooperative. Starting from February 1st 2023 the headquarters has been moved to the ground floor of the Town Hall, with opening on Wednesday morningfrom 9am to 12.30pm. This station will remain operational at least until the end of the year. The activities carried out are carried out in collaboration with the Prefecture and the Police Headquarters of Grosseto, under the coordination of the Region. “The administrative operations for the registration of arriving guests of Ukrainian nationality continue incessantly – declare the mayor Antonfrancesco Vivarelli Colonna and the councilor for Civil Protection Riccardo Megale – for our Municipality and for the other municipalities of the Maremma. Our hub, in addition to being of provincial interest, is currently the only one in Tuscany still operational. As an Administration we are happy to lend a hand to so many families who are victims of a tragedy.”
