Faenza, the new ecological delivery service for small goods is already operational

There is already a lot of interest and many customers, private individuals and commercial activities, for the new small goods delivery service developed by the Union of Romagna Faentina as part of the “Pilot project on the process of transforming the logistics of goods in the Union of Romagna Faentina”, financed by the Emilia-Romagna Region. The initiative, which makes use of a series of important collaborations such as Clust-ER Build, Clust-ER Innovate, ConAmi, Fondazione ITL, Faventia Sales and UniBo) and is placed within the scenario of reorganization and optimization of flows for the delivery of goods in the territory of the Union with a view to reducing air pollution, noise and energy consumption and, at the same time, tends to lighten the volumes of vehicular traffic to the benefit of a better liveability of the city.

As part of the reorganization of the ZTL in the city, one of the points within the PUMS, the Urban Plan for Sustainable Mobility, which plans to encourage electric and sustainable mobility compared to traditional vehicles driven by thermal engines, the Municipality of Faenza has planned the creation of proximity logistics spaces, the SLP, areas or structures, in the center, where commercial vehicles entrust the delivery to operators who cover the last stretch through the use of ecological vehicles or bicycles and cargo -bike, thus avoiding the entry into historic centers of the vehicles used by suppliers.

The experimentation of the Project, which started a few days ago and will last about a month, involves the presence of a ‘goods breaking centre’, a micro-hub, in the rooms on the ground floor of the Faventia Sales complex where, during the day, the goods are stored, awaiting delivery to private individuals and commercial activities. Technical partner of the project is the freight transport company GLS. After the experimentation period, best practices and regulatory proposals will be developed to make the delivery of goods easier in what is commonly defined as the ‘last mile’, through ecological vehicles or the use of bicycles and cargo bikes and it will be verified whether do the conditions exist, and what are they, for the applicability in the future in the historic center of the municipality of Faenza of this delivery method and for the replicability in other municipalities of the Union, in particular in that of Solarolo and Castel Bolognese given their location in flat areas. The results of the project will be presented in a conference that will be organized within the European Sustainable Mobility Week on one day in September.
