Pippi Longstocking will inaugurate the tenth edition of The City of Boys, a family event organized by the Aida Foundation in collaboration with the Municipality of Verona, Department of Culture, Fourth District, Zanotto Foundation, Amia, Unicredit, Agsm on Thursday 20 June at 9pm at Forte Gisella Aim, Consorzio Zai and Estate Teatrale Veronese.
Set up on the occasion of the centenary of the author’s birth, the show is among the longest-running of the Aida Foundation. It tells the story of Pippi, a little girl who is absolutely unconventional, and of her friends; through
their jaunty and carefree eyes gives a faithful, exhaustive and entertaining picture of the famous text. The direction and adaptation were handled by Marinella Rolfart and Pino Costalunga. Scenes, costumes and puppets
were created by Tjåsa Gusfor, an important Swedish set designer who recreated the micro world of Pippi: a sort of fantastic miniaturization where the puppets (guided by the actors on sight, not hidden
as in the puppet theatre) are the true protagonists of the scene.
The show was also appreciated by Astrid Lindgren’s heirs themselves who confirmed its authenticity during the staging, approving its distribution in Italy.
The summer event for families will continue on June 27th with the first appointment of Discover Forte Gisella, a theatrical tour to discover the fort;
the show Vegetable Process follows.
