Pozzecco responds to Messina: “It perplexes me that…”

Ettore Messina, coach and President of Basketball Operations of Olimpia EA7 Milano, said in the past that it is the clubs that work for the national team but Gianmarco Pozzecco did not appreciate these statements of the former San Antonio Spurs coach, as can be read in an interview with the Azzurri coach on Il Corriere della Sera:

“I must protect my organization, while respecting the opinions of others. I have been a player, even an Italian player, I have coached in clubs, now I am coach. I have never thought of having to clarify how much impact a club can have compared to the national team, and vice versa, on the development of a basketball player. Quantifying it is useless. It also leaves me perplexed that we don’t think as if we belonged to the same team that aims to make a leap in the quality of the movement. I have always been convinced that having been a player gives no advantages if you become a coach. Except one: you have a team spirit that others, despite gravitating towards basketball, don’t possess.”said Gianmarco Pozzecco regarding Ettore Messina’s considerations.

We’ll see if the expert Italian coach will respond to Poz in turn or it’s over with these sentences from our Italy coach.
