Treviso inaugurates Sophie’s Mum – Il Nuovo Terraglio

An important step forward for training at the crucial moment of childbirth. The tool will be used for training doctors, midwives and students

TREVISO – The quality of birth affects the future of the newborn. Among the most critical complications of childbirth are shoulder dystocia, breech delivery and the use of a vacuum cup. To improve the management of these situations, the Labomar company of Istrana donated an advanced simulator, called “Sophie’s Mom”, to the Maternal and Child Department of Ulss 2.

Simulator details

“Sophie’s Mom” is a realistic mannequin that faithfully reproduces the pelvis and the newborn, simulating human movements and tissues. This tool will be used to train doctors and midwives in managing complex births. The training laboratories will be available for all Birth Centers of the Treviso healthcare company and also for Medicine and Surgery and Obstetrics students. Not only that, SUEM operators will also benefit from the training sessions, which will be held twice a month under the guidance of expert tutors.

Statements

“Thanks to the new pelvis and newborn model we could create laboratories in which operators can practice managing the most complex births in total safety. Having Sophie’s Mom in the ward will certainly be of great advantage for the whole team who will be able to use it whenever the opportunity arises” is the comment of Dr. Enrico Busato.

“We are aware of the challenges that doctors are called upon to face every day, among these the delicate moment of childbirth. Our contribution, in this sense, represents Labomar’s commitment to supporting health professionals through adequate training”, declares Dr. Walter Bertin, founder and CEO of Labomar, a company from Istrana.

“I thank Walter Bertin and Labomar for wanting to make this donation to our company, which will be of great benefit not only to our professionals, but also to the community as a whole. The training of our doctors, midwives and future professionals who will dedicate themselves to the delicate moment of birth is, in fact, of fundamental importance to guarantee the best possible assistance to future mothers who choose our Birth Centers to give birth to their children” concludes the general director, Francesco Benazzi.
