The company closed due to debts and the house up for auction: the money motive

FANO There was no compromised relationship on an economic level between Luca Ricci and his parents nor did there exist tensions for this reason within the family. This is stated with certainty by the lawyer Roberto Longhini, who defends the Profilglass worker accused of the double murder of his parents, and who has known the family for over a decade having assisted first the father and then the son in some minor matters.

“He didn’t squander his assets”

«Luca Ricci never squandered his parents’ assets – states the lawyer Longhini -, and there was never any argument with his parents over money issues. The father had simply signed for a guarantee to try to help his son several years ago with his small financial problems. Then the son was unable to meet the payment, so there was the problem of the auction of the parents’ apartment.” But instead it is precisely the motive of the money that the investigators are investigating.

The investigators’ hypothesis is that there is a connection between the homicidal fury, attributed to Luca Ricci, who tore up the bodies of the elderly couple in the night between Sunday and Monday and the appointment that the same parents had with the very following morning the new owner, the owner of a Fano artisan business in the plumbing sector, who had purchased the married couple’s accommodation at the Pesaro court auction last September, which formally changed ownership no more than two months ago. The temporal coincidence is an element of fact as is the circumstance that just last Saturday Luca’s mother had confided to her parish priest her concern over the loss of the property due to a previous debt of her son which introduced a condition of precariousness into the couple’s life . However, eviction was not a imminent prospect because the appointment that day at a real estate agency in Fano was aimed at signing the rental contract between the parties.

The artisan entrepreneur had purchased the apartment for investment reasons, estimated by the court expert at 67,500 euros and consisting of an entrance, a living room, a kitchen, a hallway, a bedroom and a bathroom, equipped with an open space with a porticoed portion and a small accessory as a storage room. “At the moment I don’t need the apartment – says the owner – and my intention was to have the married couple remain as tenants”.

The apartment was purchased for just over 60 thousand euros because the bidder had made use of the right to make a purchase offer reduced by one tenth compared to the starting auction price. No other offers had arrived (the Riccis were evidently unable to try to buy back the property at auction) so the sale took place at that value without any increase. The lawyer Paolo Reginelli, delegated by the court to carry out the sale, informs that the entire sum was then donated to the company responsible for the recovery of the financial credit but according to Luca Ricci’s lawyer the original loan was much lower, weighing the interest in the execution phase and the costs of the proceedings.

Company started in 2010

That loan had been requested by the current Profiglass worker to finance the business activity he had started in 2010. An individual company, opened in October of that year, to carry out the assembly of furniture and shelving for third parties, evidently taking advantage of previous professional skills similar to those of his father, who had been a carpenter working in the nautical sector. The business was based right at number 127 via Fanella, the address of Luca Ricci’s parents, but it had a short life because it was closed due to debts and canceled from the business register in August 2013.
