The two very young protagonists of a road accident that occurred around lunchtime yesterday exactly halfway between Fogliano and Borgo Grappa, on the Litoranea road, in the municipality of Latina, were transported to the hospitals of Latina and Terracina. Both arrived in the Pontine hospitals under code red due to dynamics, fortunately none of them are in danger of life. It was around 12.30 when the two boys, an 18-year-old driving and a 14-year-old behind him, were traveling on an SH scooter in the direction of the Pontine capital.
Just like dozens of other citizens, most of whom were traveling along the same road: some headed to the seaside to have lunch outside, some returning from the beach after a morning spent in the sun. There was heavy traffic when, about a couple of kilometers before arriving at the entrance to Villa Fogliano, the two young people collided with a blue Fiat Punto driven by a forty-year-old who was traveling in the same direction as them. The car slowed down to turn left, in order to access a private road, where he had been invited to lunch by his employer.
The scooter, perhaps in an attempt to overtake the cars queuing behind the Punto, found the small car in front, hitting it on the rear just as it was turning. The two young people flew and landed a couple of meters away, while the motorcycle ended up against one of the reflector poles on the edge of the side road.
The immediate intervention of two 118 ambulances and a medical vehicle, called by the owner of a farm who had rushed after hearing the noise caused by the collision of the two vehicles. Once on site the 118 medics provided aid to the two injured, loading them both onto the two vehicles to transfer them to the hospital.
The fourteen-year-old was transported to Fiorini in Terracina, while the 18-year-old was transported to Santa Maria Goretti in Latina, both in red code for dynamics but, fortunately, not in danger of life. However, the man behind the wheel of the Fiat Punto was unharmed. In the meantime, the local police officers of Latina carried out investigations to reconstruct the dynamics of the incident and managed the traffic. The parents of the two boys also arrived on site, very worried about their children, like some residents of the area, who took to the streets to check on their conditions.
Traffic slowed down in both directions both because it was heading towards the seaside of the capital and because it was going to Sabaudia.
