“We need three strikers, Della Morte remains”

During the Ballon d’Or Grand Gala, sporting director Luca Matteassi revealed Vicenza’s future objectives.

The Grand Football Gala organized by the Vicenza newspaper which for years has rewarded the excellence of Vicenza football. This year, Filippo Costa and Erald Lakti were awarded, respectively protagonists with the Vicenza and Arzignano shirts. The sporting director of the red and whites, Luca Matteassi, spoke on the sidelines of the event.

At the beginning, the manager focused on the playoff final lost by Vicenza: “There is certainly disappointment or rather, displeasure. Since Vecchi arrived we have had a wonderful journey, we are sorry not to have played the final on equal terms because we arrived after a great run to make a final a little cooked and reduced due to injuries“.

On the market then, Matteassi revealed the objectives of the red and white team: “We want to start again from this beautiful group. We need two attackers capable of playing together as a pair, plus a third who is very good at attacking depth and finally we need a profile who can stand alongside Della Morte“. Filippo Alessio will also return, after his loan to Roma last season.

He then revealed which profiles will necessarily have to be taken in the next transfer market session to cover the weak points of the midfield: “In midfield, however, there will also be returnees like Cester and Zonta, but we will do something there too. Given the loss of Ronaldo, a driving force and an important player who knows the category will have to arrive.”

Stefano Vecchi’s statements

Coach Stefano Vecchi also spoke during the event and promised the Vicenza fans promotion to Serie B, extinguishing any transfer rumors that he would be away from Vicenza next season: “From above me, but also to several players who deserve it, they don’t take us into account and now we want to go up by winning here in Vicenza“.

He too did not miss an opportunity to broach the topic of the transfer market, revealing how his objective is to start from the current workforce: “We found each other and the intention is to keep most of the staff and make it even stronger“.

The path of Vicenza

Having purchased the club in 2018, Vicenza restarted from the Lega Pro with the dream of immediately returning to Serie B, which was shattered by the defeat suffered in the first round of the playoffs by Ravenna. The following year, sporting director Magalini built a team which, under the excellent guidance of Mimmo Di Carlo, easily achieved direct promotion to Serie B.

A first season in the cadet championship which even made the Vicenza team dream of the playoffs was followed by a second disastrous journey which ended with a defeat in the playout against Alessandria which condemned them to relegation. After a subdued championship and a quarter-final exit against Cesena, this year the red and whites saw their promotion to Serie B vanish during the return playoff final, lost 1-0 against Carrarese.
